Snowi is a language-learning app made by Safe4ai. It is built so that your learning stays yours: your conversations, vocabulary and progress are stored on your device, not on our servers.
Snowi is operated by Safe4ai ("we", "us"). For any question about this policy or your data, write to info@safe4ai.com.
You can export a JSON backup of your learning data, delete a single conversation, or delete all learning data at any time in the app's Settings. Deleting the app removes these records from the device.
To hold a spoken conversation, the app sends the following to OpenAI using your own API key:
Snowi does not retain your raw audio. Requests set store: false where the API supports it. OpenAI's own terms, abuse-monitoring rules and your OpenAI project settings still apply, and OpenAI bills your project for the voice, text and search you use. The usage figure shown in the app is an estimate, not an invoice.
You can practise without an account by using your own OpenAI key. If you choose to sign in (Google today; Apple when available), our server stores only what is needed to keep you signed in:
| Record | What it contains | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| Account | A random account ID, your verified email address if the provider supplies one, and the creation time | Until you delete your account |
| Sign-in identity | The provider name and the provider's stable subject identifier | Until you delete your account |
| Session | A hash of the session token (never the token itself), creation, expiry and sign-out times | 24 hours; at most ten active sessions |
| Sign-in challenge | A hash of the one-time nonce used to verify the sign-in | 5 minutes |
| Rate-limit counter | A keyed hash of the network identifier, and a counter | About 2 hours |
Provider tokens and authorization codes are verified in memory and are not stored. Your conversations, vocabulary and progress are not sent to the account service.
If paid features are offered, purchases are processed by Apple or Google through the app stores. We receive a purchase record (product, date and entitlement) so the feature can be unlocked, and we never receive your card details. Refunds follow the store's policy.
To be removed from the waitlist, email info@safe4ai.com and we will delete your address.
Deleting your account from inside the app removes its account, identity, session and wallet records. If a settled payment history exists, we must keep an opaque account reference for accounting, and we will tell you that at the time. Encrypted backups expire on their own schedule, so a deletion may not remove every backup copy immediately.
Step-by-step instructions, including what to do if you can no longer sign in, are on the support page.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and to receive a portable copy. You can exercise most of these directly in the app (JSON export, delete data, delete account) or by emailing us. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
Our service providers — OpenAI and Cloudflare — may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, transfers rely on the providers' standard contractual clauses and equivalent safeguards.
Traffic between the app and our servers uses TLS. Session tokens are stored only as hashes, API keys stay in the device's secure storage, and our server keeps only the records listed above. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your device passcode and your OpenAI key private.
Snowi is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has used the app and provided personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
If we change how Snowi handles data, we will update this page and change the date above. Material changes will also be noted in the app or by email where appropriate.
